The adventures of a human priest. 1 to 5

And so it begins. The downward spiral to my life . World of Warcraft has yet again, pulled me into it's flaming abyss to help in the quest to slay another king of sorts. It appears this king is a dragon, but that has little meaning when Rheumatoid is in town....although the problem is he's a level 5 priest and I've heard death-wing is so bad ass, he's level question mark. No worries though, I will eventually have a picture of me standing triumphantly over his smouldering corpse . Unsurprisingly, first comes the painful process of levelling a new character, as i wish to see the changes blizzard has made to Azeroth.

Beard...Beard...Beard
So the character creation was my first port of call, and I to mould my Human Priest into a work of fanatical ginger beauty...As i wanted as much ginger fluff on my character, i eventually added the most bearded options possible that will be visible in the pictures to come.
I plan to make this a regular every 5 level posting, including the tales of levelling my priest from 1 to 85. So this post begins with levels 1-5.

A narrator comes on giving me the usual back story drivel and I'm dropped, as if by magic, in front of a looming great abbey. First of all, being a vanilla player, i notice the difference already when i bring up the map and see that the old vineyard appears to have been burnt to the ground. I guess that's what made my priest rise up and take arms against the fowl death-wing. There is also what seems to be a conscription desk and this hints to me possibly that the story line may have gone more war like. Thank god.

He looks too scary to be a level 1...
I talk to the first quest giver and to my annoyance it appears that i must still grind out the boring bland quests of killing 8 wolves. The joy. In fact I did enjoy it because it allowed me to take out the anger of having to kill the wolves on the wolves. How ironic. The wolves died quickly by my hand and level 2 was reached fairly quickly. Although i must add rather softly that the wolves did look rather threatening and may have posed a significant threat to the local abbey.

Not very stealthy I must say...
I was then tasked with killing some apparent black rock spy's and stopping the scouting in the area. Therefore i realised that the war had got REAL with the Horde and the Alliance and appreciated the direction the game was going ! More pvp perhaps? Any how this quest did make me feel far more involved in a war between the horde and the alliance than previous starting quests, killing kobolds and "you no steally my candle" does get rather tiresome.

"kill me for the money" will you...?
Level 3 here I come , Ding . ! "gz" thanks readers... Lead i was, to a Marshall who'd apparently been ambushed by goblin assassin who'd "kill me for the money" but my priestly abilities slew all 8 of them rather quickly and i was then able to learn a early healing spell after looking after some hurt initiates. What figured to me was the ways of the light must not be that righteous as the flaming priest who gave me the ability charged me for it !
I want his big mace ...

Boom Level 4, and a DoT (damage over time) spell, shadow word pain
After taking care of the initiates and the goblin assassins who'd apparently "kill me for the money" i went on my way to deal with the burning vineyard and save the alliance a horrible sober death at the hands of the horde. I found this quest rather fun as it added the boring grinding initiatives, with some rather quirky game play.  Having to put out the flaming vineyard whilst killing black rock orcs is rather fun. These Wrath of the lich king style quests add a new sense of enjoyment and inclusion to the boring grinding start area play and help break the game play up. This interactive quest made me feel more in tune with the stroy as it was more dynamic and allowed me to spend my time questing not running backwards and forwards.
Kurtok of blackrock ...

So close to level 5...Finally i was sent to kill the leader of the blackrock orcs in the area, after casting a DoT on him his health slowly came down and i had no real trouble taking down this monster. Although i guess i'm still in the tutorial stages. He didn't have much protection or guards looking after him so I'm guessing our friend Kurtok wasn't much liked in his circle of friends.
Ding!

Level 5, i even cheered! so far so fun ...

Please Social Life, Forgive me...

As the installer popped onto the screen, my speakers (Still turned up to full volume) blast out the heroic World Of Warcraft installation music. Goodbye real world.
Seeing as i'm running of a relatively fast internet connection, i hope to god this will not take as long as it used to do prior to the updated tools. Which reminds me vanilla used to take so long to download. Why did vanilla ever take so long to download!
Although speaking of download processes this is still taking a rather long time. I hope very soon that i will be re-united with my loved Tauren paladin, and once again pick up the battle against some alliance scum ...

Fan boys do your worst!

I think i'm about to get sucked back into the world....Damn other peoples blogs!

The World Of Warcraft That You Play

Speaking out

Impressive display of dedication

I have so much respect for Ryan Creighton after reading the article from Pc gamer, this man has truly stood up to main stream game developers.

"I strode back to the entrance, to where the deliciously young and impressionable CA was handing out the coins. In an urgent voice, I said “Excuse me! Chris Hecker, one of the panelists, said he only really wants about half the room to get these coins. He sent me to get the bag and run it up to him at the front of the room.”
Then, with no skepticism or suspicion, the CA pleasantly purred “sure,” and handed me the bag."

Taken from Chris Heckers personal blog that can be seen here:

If you have read the linked article you will see how this genius got onto the stage at this weeks GDC and criticised large game developers. I agree with the ideas he conveyed and feel that Pay-to-play games are easily dismissed as improper even though these larger companies use unique ideas as their own.

An example of this is Battlefield Heroes. EA use a pay to gain system within the game . This system involves paying money for weapons and abilities. Even though a small 17.5% of people interviewed said they would pay for an upper hand it feels wrong to me. Especially as these game developers are criticising smaller companies and snatching up their ideas.
